Travelling By Car and Bike
Travelling from Preston and the North
Follow signs for Southport, and arrive in the town on the main road from Preston,
the A565. Continue on this road until you reach the junction with the A570 -
Travelling from Ormskirk and the East
Leave Ormskirk on the A570 Southport Road. Proceed along this road until you cross over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Pinfold. About half a mile further on, you will find a left turn into the A5147. Make this turn, and follow the road through Halsall and Haskayne and Downholland Cross. The Parish Hall will be on your left just before you enter Lydiate.
Travelling from Liverpool, or the South
There are several zillion ways to leave Liverpool heading North, so it would be impracticable to give every combination. However, what you need to do is to head towards the Switch Island interchange. Do not take either the M57 or the M58, but continue through the intersection on the A59, the Northway. Once the road has entered Maghull, you will find a take off to the left, which is the A5147 Liverpool Road North. Bear left on to this road, and continue through Lydiate until the road crosses the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The Parish Hall will be on your right, a couple of hundred yards further on.
Travelling from Formby and the West.
Other than travelling on the main roads described above, the only other way of driving
from Formby to Lydiate is ‘across the moss!’ Anyone used to doing this will no doubt
have their own favourite route, but if you don’t it may be best to follow the B5195
from Formby and the by-
